The first step in new product development is setting a goal and establishing target performance. In our case, we knew from the beginning that our target is to redefine the patient’s vision and to set a new standard for what results should look like after IOL implantation.
From the starting point of developing an optical design, we knew that we wanted our IOL to be unique. The main question was how to achieve that? This question led to the development of a novel technology, named DLU (dynamic light utilization) Technology. The prototypes were designed by utilizing a new method, different from other lenses currently available in the market. While conservative method is based on trial and error, which does not give the best performance, The DLU is an iterative algorithm; we define the desired energy distribution between the foci and the algorithm runs hundreds of iterations until it reaches the best possible light efficiency. This method provided a unique lens profile with multiple smooth symmetrical steps distributing the energy in an optimal way between five foci while maintaining maximal light efficiency.
In bench testing, Intensity provided us with continuous USAF. When presenting the prototypes with this special design we all agreed that this lens is a game changer. After optimization, a long development process and various bench tests we were convinced that we have a unique optical design that will redefine visual outcomes.
In our early experience with Intensity, a clinical study in Meir Medical center by Prof. Assia and some post marketing studies, we were able to demonstrate that the DLU technology provides patients with excellent vision in the far, intermediate and near distances, high contrast sensitivity in photopic and mesopic conditions and high satisfaction rate.

Intensity is currently available in Toric version with 1D cylinder correction lens. The Intensity Toric lens will be available in higher cylinders in the 1st quarter of 2021. The Hanita Intensity IOL is made of a hydrophilic raw material. However, the Hydrophobic Intensity is under development and will be available in the 3rd quarter of 2021.
